Lansing Police FOIA Process

The Lansing Police Department has a dedicated Records Division that handles FOIA requests. You can submit requests by email to LPD.FOIA@lansingmi.gov, by fax at (517) 377-0162, or by mail to 120 W. Michigan Avenue, 1st Floor, Lansing, MI 48993. An online portal is also available for submitting requests.

The Records Division offers several services. These include general record checks, criminal record checks, driving record requests, and certified copies. You can also access public terminals at the department for looking up records in person. When you call the department, press Option 7 for Central Records. This is the unit that handles FOIA requests, police reports, and firearm registrations.

Note: The Lansing Police Department also publishes internal affairs reports, crime mapping, and department reports as part of its public transparency efforts. These are separate from individual FOIA requests.
